Britain and the four nation

A study of the history and culture of Great Britain is one of interest and intrigue. This interest arises from the fact that there exists a mutual agreement among the nations of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to coexist under the same government therefore giving all of the countries, common political, economic, security and social goals notwithstanding the differences in languages, culture, and geographical locations. This union is highly commendable as it has been able to weather numerous storms and sustain the unity, rising as high as to colonize numerous countries in the world. Indeed, very few multi-ethnic nations can be this integrated.

Although the name Great Britain is used for the island of England, Wales and Scotland, many people in the world including myself still think of the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Island as Great Britain. After all, the greatness of this nation is not in the island called Britain; it is rather in the strength of the unity of these nations. Even though Great Britain is actually a small nation considering that its size is roughly “twice the size of New York”, it is still the third most populous island in the world with a population of well over 60 million people.

The people of Great Britain are quite polite, warm, and welcoming to all kinds of people. This can be underscored by the low incidence of racism in the country compared to some other ones in Europe.

Britain is highly developed economically. This explains why so many people from around the world long to visit and probably settle down permanently in the country. Its preeminence in the arts and sciences and technological sophistication also makes her a high target for international students to get proper education. This makes her even more highly prosperous and relatively peaceful. Generally, residents of Britain belong to one of the most affluent people in the countries of Europe and enjoy a high standard of living as well compared to the rest of the world.
